Scribbles from... Sisters In Scripture
How many times has the cross been traced upon your brow? First at baptism with the sweet scent of chrism, then sometime later, with one hand still in your mother's, you may have lifted an upturned face to repeat that action with ashes--and repeated it many times more. Photo by Pixabay
Today we come forward again to make a mark upon our forehead, an outward sign of our interior turning. We choose to partake of an ancient ritual ever new. Branded with the mark of Christ, we set out on the path that lies ahead for whatever it holds.
"A journey can become a sacred thing:
Make sure before you go,
To take the time
To bless your going forth."
- John O'Donohue, "A Traveler's Blessing"
Some music to accompany you on your way...
We do not walk alone; there are encounters along the way. There were for Christ as well. This year as we journey through Lent, let us use encounters as a way to experience Christ's Passion in a different way. Every Wednesday, Scribbles will feature one of those persons who was there when Jesus walked his last mile, one of those who was a Witness on the Way:
Feb 21
Pilate's
Wife
Feb 28
Simon of
Cyrene
Mar 6
Women of Jerusalem
Mar 13
Centurion
Mar 20
The Good
Thief
Mar 27
Joseph of Arimathea
For every Witness we will use a scripture selection, background information, reflection questions, and Midrash to help us enter more deeply into the story. This intentional way of walking with others through Lent will bring us with Jesus, to Calvary on Good Friday.
When Lent comes to its climax on Good Friday, we will host an online Zoom using all seven of these Witnesses, plus others, to create an interactive Station of the Cross, a full-sized, WITNESSES ON THE WAY. More details will follow as we progress through Lent. For now, mark your calendar for:
